Summer Entertainment in the Great Outdoors

Summer evening music at the Alverton Hotel, Truo

I am writing this on a stunningly warm June day, the perfect backdrop to dream about long summer evenings and outdoor cocktails with fab entertainment. Of course, in reality, Cornwall can have truly cold and wet summers, but right now lets dream we can enjoy the outside lifestyle just as much as our European neighbours.

There are so many events opening up which is lovely to see, some restricted but well thought through, to cope with Covid. Outside really does seem to be the way to go, so here are 5 events up and down the county that look to bring those summer vibes we are all longing for after a trying year.

Sterts Theatre on Bodmin Moor

Sterts Theatre on Bodmin Moor have announced their summer season. My younger brother used to be involved with them when he was little and he loved it! Their open air auditorium provides shelter as well as ventilation to enjoy the family friendly entertainment. We have the likes of Shrek, The Wolf From the Door, Romeo and Juliette as well as Alice in Wonderland. Check out their website for details.

Delicious food on the terrace at The Alverton Hotel

The Alverton Hotel in Truro Summer Sessions

Summer Garden Sessions at The Alverton hotel in Truro looks to be a treat. Cocktails teamed with great local musicians await on their sun-drenched terrace. You will need to book your ticket but some of the acts so far confirmed are Josh Curnow, Winter Mountain and True Foxes.

Bedruthan Hotel and Spa summer theatre events

At the Bedruthan Hotel and Spa there are two family friendly events to enjoy on the lawns, with really breathtaking views. The last time I was at this hotel was to retreat from the gale-force wind and rain, peering at the view over my hot chocolate was lovely, but as the sun sets this would be the place to be. The 3rd of July brings you The Tale of Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny, and the 4th of August (for slightly older kids) Starcrazy: A Cosmic Comedy.

Lovely classical music by the lily pond at Jopes Mill

For classical and folk music head to Jopes Mill near Liskeard. In tranquil surroundings enjoy Mozart, Faure, Beethoven and Barber. The weekend of the 3rd of July, bring a picnic and enjoy sumptuous notes by the lily pond.

Pentillie Castle theatre for the summer

Pentillie Castle at Saltash is a wonderful backdrop for the dramatic, this summer they are hosting HMS Pinafore by Gilbert and Sullivan and Shakespeare's Macbeth.

Just a taster of some of the outdoor events taking place this summer, I am so impressed with how Cornish business have adapted to the challenges and still managed to provide a wonderful season of entertainment for us all to enjoy.
