A Lovely Long Weekend in St Ives

Image
This mini heat wave has really shown Cornwall off at its best, I took the opportunity to spend a long weekend with my mum in St Ives and it didn't disappoint!  I had been to this tourist hot spot just last September and it was rather wonderful, so when my mum and I needed some R&R this was the place I booked.  True, the weather was rather spectacular, and it really isn't always the case in Cornwall, but St Ives just felt like a mini piece of paradise on our long weekend away.  We picked a self catering place about 15 mins up a steep hill (oops), but the house was light and airy with a garden and comfy beds, all we needed after our epic climb. The first night we dined in style, I treated mum to a meal at the famous Porthmeor Beach Cafe with a sea view and a delicious tapas menu. Everyone was so welcoming and flexible, it made for a great experience. Before our table was free we had just enough time to wander round the Tate art gallery and grab a coffee, still gazing at that

It's a Musical June

It's not long now until I take my mum to see Diana Ross at The Eden Project! She is very excited, me too! Quite a legend. I thought it might be good to share some of the other musical events up and coming this month and beyond.  It really feels that after a few years away from living life fully we are finally able to. This summer promises to be a bumper one for Cornwall with so many festivals coming back to us, and what a eclectic mix... Sundays from May to September are seeing Truro's Victoria Gardens ' band stand put to good use. Local brass bands and orchestras will be delighting folk from 2.30 to 4pm. Also in Truro, at The Alverton's beautiful gardens, they are welcoming back the Summer Garden Sessions . Think a sun-drenched terrace, stunning tunes and a cocktail or two. This month sees Hannigan, Rue and Ash Harding take to the stage. Speaking of Eden's Sessions , their line up this year includes other big names such as Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Ni

Art for the Soul

There is so much we have missed this last year, but today as I write finally May is glorious, finally the sun is warm and finally this feels like a little slice of normal. One thing I love about our county is the abundance of creatives, wonderful art and talented artisans. So, as galleries open up and exhibitions commence, here are a few places to go and feed your soul. Wheal Martin are celebrating the heritage of our clay country with an exhibition from contemporary artist Kurt Jackson. His works are vibrant and loose but with a real affinity to this man-made but beautiful landscape. Running until the 5th of September, find out more .  Something a little different, ' Lights out for Darker Skies ' seeks to highlight the negative impact artificial light pollution can have on us and our environment. West Penwith have applied for International Dark Sky status and this exhibition involves stunning dark sky images, nocturnal wildlife footage and local artist collaborations.  Only ru
