The Standard Inn in Gerrans on the Roseland Peninsula Winter in Cornwall has a character all its own. The bright days of summer may have gone, but the quieter roads, dramatic skies and fireside stops bring a different kind of magic. There are windswept beaches, misty moors, seasonal events and plenty of places to warm up afterwards. Here are eight of my favourite ways to enjoy Cornwall during the colder months. 1. Settle into a cosy Cornish pub Watching stormy seas with a hot drink before retreating to a crackling fire is hard to beat. Cornwall has no shortage of welcoming pubs, whether they overlook the water or sit quietly in a village away from the coast. Despite the rather undulating nature of Cornwall, discovering our county by bike is a really great way to explore. Whether you fancy mountain biking through the forest trails at Cardinham Woods or a gentler pace, stopping to enjoy the estuary views towards Padstow on the Camel Trail, there is something for everyone. Here are a few of our favourites. Cornwall’s cycle routes can be enjoyed throughout the year. Autumn is particularly lovely, with quieter trails, crisp mornings and changing colours, while spring and summer bring longer days. Whatever the season, it is worth checking the weather and trail conditions before setting out. Lanhydrock and Cardinham Woods The Lanhydrock estate, just outside Bodmin, has some lovely trails specifically reserved for bikes. Encounter Cornwall on the Fowey Estuary I love October in Cornwall. There is colour in the hedges, a crunch underfoot and a freshness in the air. As long as I have plenty of layers and the promise of a hot chocolate, it is a wonderful time to explore. The summer crowds have thinned, but there is still plenty happening around the county. Lostwithiel Museum, in the heart of our little town It is hard to miss the history of Cornwall. From tall ships and mining to shipwrecks, art and the beginnings of global communication, there are stories everywhere you look. Many Cornish towns have their own museum too, making them perfect places to retreat to on a rainy day, or simply when curiosity gets the better of you. In my home town of Lostwithiel, we have history in spades. Restormel Castle stands above the town, the Duchy Palace recalls Lostwithiel's medieval importance, and our peaceful river was once busy with trade and shipping. Our small museum on Fore Street does a wonderful job of exploring the many layers of local life. Up and down the country, communities celebrate with carnival weeks and summer festivals. This being Cornwall, we also have plenty of regattas to enjoy. Regattas are about much more than boat races. They bring together sailing, competitions, entertainment, food and music, with whole towns and harbours joining in. Three of the best-known are in Fowey, Charlestown and Falmouth, each with its own character. Fowey Royal Regatta Fowey Royal Regatta is the closest to me and probably one of my favourites. For one week each summer, the town fills with sailing, competitions, entertainment, food and music, drawing visitors from miles around. The sailing is at the heart of it, with dinghy racing, cruisers and Fowey's distinctive Troy Class boats out on the water. The regatta has a long history too, with roots stretching back to the 19th century. There is plenty happening ashore as well, so you certainly don't have to be a sailor to enjoy it. When thinking about what to bring you this month from the jewel that is Cornwall I settled on beer. We have a community of great brands growing in reputation and influence. You see my brother works for the much adored Beer Gonzo in Coventry and when he comes home I like to show him the new beers I might have found and the best places to drink them. Often, I must confess, initially choosing them (being a graphic designer) based on my love of packaging! Together we have found that Cornwall has plenty to offer the discerning palette. Here are some of the best brews to sample, views to enjoy as you drink and tours to embark on.  First up breweries, this is an ever growing list, but top has to be Verdant in Penryn. Going now since 2014 this independent is making a name for itself.
