Cracking Things to do May Bank Holiday and Half Term

Image
I so love May in Cornwall, it's like a taste of summer before the madness descends! Though this year the weather has kept us guessing. I have been both sunburnt and blue with cold!  Half term is starting soon we have our second bank holiday so I thought I would share some of the shenanigans going on that are worth rocking up to. Starting with food... Falmouth Food Festival is a delicious affair. I found it by chance a few years ago when having a long weekend away and we were really spoilt for choice. Local favourites shine and good music brings those festival vibes. Running from the 22nd - 25th of May. For something to take you through the looking glass, Scorrier House hosts The Great Estate , known as 'the most rambunctious garden fĂȘte'. It's a ticketed festival full of music, art and theatre and comedy and some big headliners. 29th to the 31st of May.  The Lost Gardens of Heligan are bringing back their popular Wild Week during May half term . As well as enjoying the...

Easing into Autumn - Cornwall Events

Image
Ok, so it may only be the start of September but already I am feeling quite autumnal. Kids are going back to school, the evenings are closing in and there is just that hint of cosiness, 'hygge' if you will. Cornwall has been very popular this summer, so it is quite nice to welcome the slower pace of life we are famed for down on the coast. If you are not quite ready to let go of summer, never fear because there is always an ice cream cone to grab, a wave to catch and plenty of oportunities for alfresco dining still to come. Welcoming autumn in Cornwall really has a lot to do with food, we do it well here, which I am sure you have heard! Just the other day I was sitting in the orchard garden at St Kew Farmshop and Cafe surrounded by apples ripe for the plucking, a great place full of atmosphere and tasty treats. You should have seen the size of my cinnamon bun!    There are some brilliant events to attend this month if you fancy it, St Ives Food and Drink festival is from the 1...

The Great Cornish Food Festival

Image
Its that time again, The Great Cornish Food Festival is back at the Lemon Quay in Truro. Starting on Thursday 22nd September 2017 and running for three days. Cornwall does have its fair share of food festivals, so why is this one so special? It really showcases the best of Cornish food, from the little guy to the brands we love. 40,000 people come every year to the 70 stands for a true taste of our fair county. Nathan Outlaw, whose restaurant has been newly named the best in the UK by the Good Food Guide, will be making his 13th appearance. Expect delicious dishes and demonstrations from local business, chefs, mixologists and producers all on the three stages. You can learn to mix the perfect breakfast martini or crimp a pasty - the proper way. There's enough to fill a day with street food, beers and cosy hot drinks. Pick up a new skill or just enjoy wondering the stalls and see the breadth of what Cornwall has to offer. The festival boasts that all the produce on sal...

April is a busy month in Cornwall, the weather is usually pretty good (as it is today). The attractions open up and the coast becomes even more inviting. Barely a month goes by when we are not celebrating our great cuisine, and this month is no different! Here are three events you can enjoy in April in Cornwall. Falmouth Folk and Cider Fayre  14-17 April Falmouth is a great place that I love to visit, but this festival sounds great. Come to the festival and find over 70 ciders to try! Some great folk talent including FolkLaw, Alex Hart, Jonah's Lift, The Other Band and Sarah McQuaid. As well as folk and cider there are of course food stalls, arts and crafts and local fare. Portleven Food Festival 21-23 April Near Helston, this foodie event is quite a draw. There are over 90 stalls of food and craft all along the harbour with great music to complement. All ending in dazzling fireworks! Michelin star chefs will be doing demonstrations, there’s plenty to inspire and a real bu...
