Cotehele Flower Garland

It really is a sight to behold, and a throwback to a wonderful summer, the Cotehele flower garland . With everything feeling a little glooming at times, shorter evenings, endless rain and the wind feeling rather relentless, this Tudor National Trust house brings a colourful array of sunshine through their annual garland of dried flowers. It's a tradition that goes back to 1956, this year managed for the first time by head gardener Kay Lyle and her wonderful team. Being such a bumper year for flowers, the team believe they have used 38,000 of them to make the garland which hangs in the Tudor hall .  It is simply stunning, 18 metres long and taking a whole year from seed to create and about 10 days to assemble. Although the house is wrapped up for the winter (when most of the repair and conservation work is done) the estate is still beautiful to explore. Keeping it Local

    Hello, it has been a little while since my last post so I thought I would show you some of beautiful things I've seen whilst on lockdown. Cornwall along with the rest of the country is respecting the stay at home advise because of COVID-19. We are being encouraged to stay home, and rightly so, which makes bringing you the beauty of this county far and wide not possible right now. Events, exhibitions and festivals may have been suspended but there is still plenty to revel in right on our doorsteps! Many businesses are still offering slightly tailored services or are available online so I would encourage you to support this beautiful place and its entrepreneurs where you can. I thought today I would share some pictures I've snapped on my daily exercise walks. I live in Lostwithiel and am blessed to have woodland right on my doorstep. Steep country lanes, farmland and forests, I have really enjoyed taking the time to explore what my corner of Cornwall...

The Royal Cornwall Show

Starting tomorrow, the 9th of June, and running until the 11th June 2016 is the Royal Cornwall Show. This annual event really draws the crowds! Every year the visitors are around 120,000, not bad for the show that starting in Truro over 200 years ago as a ploughing competition between farmers! Today, alongside the best livestock and animals you will find Cornish wrestling, flower shows, the food tent (with free samples!!), show jumping, a steam fair, dog show, local businesses, health and beauty, the list goes on! Located at the show ground just outside Wadebridge, the RCS often boasts a royal appearance. A great place to head if you want to see the cream of Cornwall and enjoy the buzz of a crowd!
