Cardinham Woods

Image
Autumn is all about golden leaves, woodland walks and making the most of the fleeting daylight. There is something about the shorter days makes me want to squeeze all I can out of the golden light and (very) fresh air. But rather than the coast, this month I am taking you inland, to Cardinham Woods .  One of Forestry England's gems, this tranquil place is just outside of Bodmin and has multiple trails for all kinds of walks. My friends who are more limited in their ability, or those with children and pushchairs, love the largely flat Lady Vale walk. You can cut across the river making the shortest route just 0.9 miles (1.45km) or 1.7 miles (2.75km) if you take the whole flat route. It's great for kids with the Gruffalo characters along the trail and activities little ones will love. This season they also have a 'Forest Walkies' with Wallace and Gromit which looks great fun. You download an app and complete challenges with your dog, the £5 pack gets you a bandanna for y...

Artistic Inspiration for February in Cornwall

Image
Ready to get your creative juices flowing? I have listed some great events and exhibitions happening across the county, February is a fab month for art.  If you fancy getting involved in the creative process, there can be no greater location than The Godolphin Hotel with that stunning view of St Michael's Mount. Saturday the 3rd of February they invite you to sip a cuppa whilst you paint , social, relaxed and in lovely surroundings.  Down St Ives way Leach Pottery have some great workshops on over the holidays (12th - 14th Feb), free for kids in Cornwall. Definitely worth looking into, for the budding potters in your family.  The wonderful Tolmen Centre at Constantine is always worth a visit (theatre, music, art and a cafe!) until the 18th of February they are exhibiting the artworks of Sophie Velzian , such moody and atmospheric pieces, painted at her Helford River studio.  The Earth Photo exhibit is coming to The Lost Gardens of Heligan, a touring exhibit of phot...

The Hungry Caterpillar at Eden

Image
This was a favourite book with both Carl and I at Pickle Design ! It was my go-to read at school, I just loved the illustrations and how the story unfolded before my eyes. This weekend, 16th-17th March 2019, at Eden they are celebrating Eric Carle's classic with crafty workshops, a trail around the domes and a re-telling brought alive by Eden's excellent storytellers. From making butterfly wings to string puppets this well-loved tale provides plenty of inspiration for family fun. To find out more head to the Eden Project website.
