Winter Pub Walks in Cornwall

January is here and winter is in full swing. Coastal walks and village wanderings are perfectly fitting for this season, however I don't know about you but I require somewhere cosy to warm myself after too much fresh Cornish air. Although it's not the cold snap we were experiencing, still, here are a few of the best pubs in Cornwall to retreat to, when looking at the view is as welcome as walking in it.

Polkerris Rashleigh Inn

We do love a good pub in the UK don't we. From local ales to home cooked food (and gastro excellence more often than not). A favourite from my neck of the woods is the Rashleigh Inn at Polkerris beach. It has it all, that sea view, roaring fire and resident cat. You could walk from either direction, I often park up at Par beach and walk the short distance across the coastal path ending at the pub for a drink. Or go for the longer walk from Fowey (a fab little town whatever the season). But here are a few other favourites to enjoy at the end of a walk this January.

Pandora Inn

Back in my student days in Falmouth, Pandora Inn was a lovely place to go, having survived a fire and been rebuilt it is still a popular spot. Walk from Mylor Bridge to enjoy a couple of hours of calm and tranquility. Sometimes I love just having a pudding at a pub (I know, strange). Something my brother and I use to do, cancelling out all that good calorie burning it's true, but oh so rewarding. The ginger and treacle steamed pudding with a cinnamon crème anglaise sounds rather fitting.

The Old Quay Inn at Devoran

Devoran is a truly calming spot by Restronguet Creek. There is a pub there called the Old Quay Inn, home to a lovely Sunday roast. Its not too far from the Mineral tramways coast to coast trail and you can bring your dog too.

Frenchman's Creek Winter Walk

Frenchman's Creek is another beautiful location (I like the river walks we have in Cornwall, so atmospheric). Made famous by Daphne du Maurier's novel, this area of Cornwall is full of history and myth. You can take a short walk of just 2.7 miles through woodland and farmland and quiet roads, stopping off The Riverside Cafe for tasty cakes, or The Shipwrights Arms in Helford has delicious food right on the water's edge.

Port William Pub Trebarwith Strand

This is a pub I have only actually visited in Winter, Port William Inn at Trebarwith Strand near Tintagel. It is certainly fitting for the occasion, right on the cliff edge with stunning views out to a particularly rugged stretch of coast. Lots of walks are available here, but a circular one from Tintagel is a great one to do.

Hopefully this has given you a few ideas of how to mix the cosy with the invigorating!
