February Half Term with Kids
It feels like we are powering through this year, I don't know about you. I thought for our February blog story today I would look at some of the great things happening in Cornwall over this coming February half term break. Although many things in Cornwall don't really seem to get going until Easter, there is still plenty for families to enjoy, here are a few suggestions.
A good idea whatever the season, cycling the Camel Trail, a favourite for families young and old. In Summer the pathways that line the estuary can become a little congested which is one of the reasons why this route is great to enjoy at this time of year. Perhaps the most popular stretch is from Wadebridge to Padstow. There something quite motivating about the reward of fish and chips on the harbour at the end! There are great cycle hire places to choose from as well. Heading the other way, towards Bodmin and beyond to Wenfordbridge provides a quieter stretch with beautiful scenery to soak up when you pause to catch your breath!
If heading outside is a tad cold - or wet - then how about heading under water at the Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay. There are plenty of sea creatures to capture the imagination and this half term for kids they have a Totally Turtle quiz and trail.
An old favourite, especially if you have a local's pass, is ice skating at the Eden Project. February half term is the last chance to do this so a good choice for those who love to twirl. I tend to watch from the sidelines as I spend more time horizontal than vertical it seems!
Up Launceston way is Tre Pol Pen, a destination of a farm shop that is always a treat to visit. This Saturday, the 15th, they are hosting a Farming Fun Day with animals and machinery to keep little ones engaged for a good few hours.
Way out west, the renowned Leach Pottery, are offering a taste for creative kids to explore their craft. Also promoting creativity, Writers' Block near Redruth has a half term club for budding writers, worth checking out.
Another family favourite destination is Hayle's Paradise Park, happily they have indoor play for the soggier days and this year a Penguin Quiz to get kids engaged. There is also a £3 discount for using the code 'HALFTERM', every little helps.
But if you are looking for free ideas to keep little ones engaged there is so much natural beauty on our doorstep. Over at Cornwall Discovery Tours they list some of the best places to explore snowdrop trails and bluebell woods.
