Cracking Things to Do in Cornwall This May Half Term

I so love May in Cornwall. It’s like a taste of summer before the madness descends! Though this year, the weather has kept us guessing. I have been both sunburnt and blue with cold!

Half term is starting soon, and we have our second bank holiday of the month, so I thought I would share some of the shenanigans going on around Cornwall that are worth rocking up to. Starting with food...

Falmouth Food Festival

Falmouth Food Festival is a delicious affair. I found it by chance a few years ago while having a long weekend away, and we were really spoilt for choice. Local favourites shine, and good music brings those festival vibes. It runs from 22 to 25 May.

The Great Estate

For something to take you through the looking glass, Scorrier House hosts The Great Estate, known as ‘the most rambunctious garden fête’. It’s a ticketed festival full of music, art, theatre and comedy, with some big headliners too. It runs from 29 to 31 May.

Wild Week at Heligan

The Lost Gardens of Heligan are bringing back their popular Wild Week during May half term. As well as enjoying these enchanting gardens, there’ll be axe throwing, archery, fire-making and assault courses, alongside bushcraft, animal tracking, guided walks and tours. Get immersed in the great outdoors.

Jurassic Creek

Camel Creek are travelling back in time with daily dinosaur encounters. ‘Jurassic Creek’ will involve adorable baby dinos, a T-Rex meet and greet and a raptor training academy. Performative fun for kids of all ages, running from 23 to 30 May.

Giant Slip and Slide

Opening on Saturday 23 May at St Columb Major is the Giant Slip and Slide. Let’s face it, this is for big kids too. There is even a water pistol battle! Wetsuits recommended.

Cornwall Open Studios

And finally, Cornwall Open Studios is running this year from Saturday 23 to Sunday 31 May. Around 300 artists and makers open their studio spaces to the public. I love discovering the brilliant talent right on my doorstep that I never knew was there!
