Meet the Animals

Cornwall Seal Sanctuary

For this month's blog story I wanted to share some of the great places in Cornwall where you can go to interact with animals. From sanctuaries and farms to wildlife parks, all with education and conservation at their heart. These are just a few of the places we love to visit in Cornwall...

Paradise Park Cornwall

Paradise Park

Located in Hayle in West Cornwall, Paradise Park is a firm family favourite. It is great for kids with a little train, soft play and a lovely array of colourful birds and small animals to see. A family fun day out.

Lynx at Newquay Zoo

Newquay Zoo

This little zoo has a passion for conservation and you can really see they love their animals. Lions, zebras, sloths, penguins and red pandas are just a few of the animals you can visit.

Cornish Seal Sanctuary

Cornish Seal Sanctuary

A firm favourite, the seals are such characters! Best for a dry day as most the pens are outside, and it's more than just seals - beavers, sea lions and some farm animals too. You can actually bring dogs on a lead which can be handy, it's a great place to learn about their fab efforts with rescue and rehabilitation.

Meerkats in Cornwall

Porfell Wildlife Park

I have visited this place quite a few times over the years and it just has a lovely feel. Outside of the holiday hotspot that is Looe, this animal sanctuary welcomes creatures from all over the world. We particularly enjoy the capybara (giant guinea pig!) and meerkats.

Flicka Donkey Sanctuary in Cornwall

Flicka Donkey Sanctuary

This was a recent discovery for me, my mum loves donkeys and while on a long weekend in Falmouth we stopped by this sanctuary on the way home. It's a lovely place run by caring and passionate people. The donkeys have been rescued from the worst situations but you can really see are so happy now, and they love a good fuss!

National Lobster Hatchery

National Lobster Hatchery

Ok this one might seem a little strange but it is actually a fascinating place. It's small and doesn't take long to visit (located in Padstow so there's plenty you can combine your trip with) but they have successfully created an engaging experience kids enjoy and parents leave happily informed.

Screech Owl Sanctuary

Screech Owl Santuary

You can see more than 30 kinds of owl from the world over, plus this family run attraction has pigmy goats, emus, meerkats and racoons. There's outdoor play and flying displays, a lovely day out.

That is just a sample of what you can see in Cornwall, there's also butterflies at Guy's Butterfly House, Llama Land packed with, well Llamas and Blue Reef Aquarium where you can see a giant pacific octopus!
