Easing into Autumn - Cornwall Events

St Ives September Festival

Ok, so it may only be the start of September but already I am feeling quite autumnal. Kids are going back to school, the evenings are closing in and there is just that hint of cosiness, 'hygge' if you will.

Cornwall has been very popular this summer, so it is quite nice to welcome the slower pace of life we are famed for down on the coast.

If you are not quite ready to let go of summer, never fear because there is always an ice cream cone to grab, a wave to catch and plenty of oportunities for alfresco dining still to come.

Welcoming autumn in Cornwall really has a lot to do with food, we do it well here, which I am sure you have heard! Just the other day I was sitting in the orchard garden at St Kew Farmshop and Cafe surrounded by apples ripe for the plucking, a great place full of atmosphere and tasty treats. You should have seen the size of my cinnamon bun!

St Ives Food Festival September 2021

There are some brilliant events to attend this month if you fancy it, St Ives Food and Drink festival is from the 17th-19th of September and will highlight some of the best produce the area can offer. Throughout the month (11th-25th) St Ives host their September Festival which brings together music and art in one of the most picturesque places in Cornwall.

North Cornwall Literary Festival

North Cornwall Book Festival at St Endellion

The North Cornwall Book Festival at St Endellion (23rd-26th Sept) is also a good date for your diary, authors and readers come together to celebrate the world of books, check the website to see what's in store.

Blink and you miss it but this year Cornwall is hosting the start of the Tour of Britain (5th Sept), postponed from last year, the cyclists will be covering the Cornish countryside, all the way from Penzance to Bodmin. Check the website for exactly when you'll see the cyclists near you, there's local events up and down the route for all the family to enjoy.

Shanty Festival in Port Isaac

It was always a lovely local treat to hear the sea shanties when I lived in Falmouth, and it's great to see that this year Port Isaac are hosting a festival too. What began in 2019 but couldn't go ahead last year has return to be bigger and better. The weekend of the 17th-19th in September will be this years date, with free entry.

Something a little different for 2021, Cornwall will host its first balloon festival at the Royal Cornwall show ground. The 18th and 19th of September will see the skies filled with hot air balloons of all designs, plus a giant fun fair, toffee apples anyone?

You see there is plenty to choose from when it comes to organised events to start autumn off well. Time to pull on the layers and get outside and make the most of the season's treats.
