FRANKENSTEIN!

A new play by Bill Scott, with lyrics and music by Tom Adams.

Don’t miss Cornwall’s favourite alternative to pantomime this winter, when Miracle Theatre bring ‘the ultimate monster-mash up’ to Bude’s Parkhouse Centre on Thursday 20th December!

Renowned for their surreal and comic re-workings of well known and loved stories, Miracle’s inventive approach to FRANKENSTEIN!  promises to tickle funny bones and have audiences jumping out of their seats!

Originally a Victorian novel, famously a black and white movie starring Boris Karloff and the inspiration for The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Miracle presents its Frankenstein! as a musical performed by the Ffitch Repertory Players in 1947.

As with past Miracle shows, The Revenge of Rumpelstiltskin and Aladdin, audiences will enjoy backstage glimpses of the intrepid players as they struggle to create their terrifying vision of the future - a world where the rich and famous have paid huge sums to have their bodies preserved at sub-zero temperatures in the EternaLife cryonics facility, hoping that one day science will be able to reverse the ageing process.

“The original novel is so rich in themes and ideas that it lends itself to pretty much any kind of interpretation,” says Miracle director, Bill Scott. “Our unique adaptation, while looking for laughs, does not shy away from the deeper aspects of the classic tale and will have a bit more bite than your average panto, designed for the enjoyment of adults as much as children – though often in different ways!”

When the power is cut off, Frank must race against time to construct a superhuman of epic proportions that can carry the precious genes of the rich and famous into the future.

His cut and paste creation is a hideous mistake. Feared by its creator, shunned by the world, the monster takes revenge. It craves the one thing it can never have...

Miracle’s FRANKENSTEIN! is told with the visual flair of early cinema and the elegant charm of  the post-war musical. Original songs have been composed by Tom Adams (who played Bobby Beauty in Beauty and the Beast from Mars) and will be performed to live musical accompaniment by Ben Dyson and Ciaran Clarke (straight from their success in The Importance of Being Earnest) and newcomer Holly Cassidy.

This silly, but tender, story of unrequited love, confused monsters and science gone mad promises to hit the spot, whether you’re a lover of traditional pantomime or looking for an alternative this Christmas.

Expect foot-tapping songs, dazzling dance routines, eye-watering comedy and a jolly good fright!
