When you are in need of a peaceful haven and a tranquil escape, the countryside of North Cornwall is hard to beat. Brookfields Bed and Breakfast was set in a quiet rural location within easy reach of Port Isaac, Padstow, Wadebridge and Rock.

The house stood within generous grounds and lawns, with wide countryside views for guests to enjoy. Grass paddocks, geese and ducks around the pond helped make Brookfields feel a world away from hectic everyday life.

At the time this article was written, the rooms were fresh, bright and comfortably furnished. The breakfast room made the most of the surrounding views, giving guests a peaceful base with good access to some of North Cornwall’s best-known towns and villages.

It was one of those hidden places that offered the best of both worlds: rural seclusion and easy access to the coast.

Golitha Falls

It's been a busy summer! With my sister's wedding and plenty of guests (living in Cornwall you are guaranteed a constant flow of house guests). It's been lovely but I am looking forward to quieter times and that balm to the soul - a golden September. Hope so! Looking back though I wanted to share a favourite place we love to visit in all seasons, Golitha Falls . It's actually where our little Lostwithiel river runs through, the River Fowey, but nearer to its source, on Bodmin Moor. This is the ancient woodland of Draynes Wood, mentioned in the Domesday Book. The river cascades over giant rocks, best to visit after heavy rains because then you see these falls in all their beauty.  This year was rather dry but the river was still a beautiful walk. You follow its path as momentum builds, the drop is more than 90 metres in total. Is there anything better? Local produce, scrummy food and fab locations. We all love a farm shop. Today I wanted to share five of my favourites from across the county, all well worth a visit. 1) Tre, Pol & Pen Edging our way towards the border, near Launceston, we have Tre, Pol & Pen . The food is delicious, the restaurant is spacious and they host great events. It is a real hub for the local community. 2) Boscastle Farm Shop Another popular choice is Boscastle Farm Shop . Set amid stunning scenery, the food is honest, local and has travelled very few miles. 3) Colwith Farm This one is just down the road from me, and it is lovely to see how the business has grown. A family-run potato farm, Colwith has expanded from a simple honesty box into a lovely little farm shop, with some great gifts, alongside a distillery offering tours and tastings.
