Walk With Me

Story telling triggered by GPS as you walk around cornwall

Welcome to a new way to explore the stories of Cornwall. Much loved theatre company, Kneehigh, have just released a free app to accompany you on your journey of discovery of our ancient county.

Story telling to accompany amazing views of the Cornish coast

Artist, poet and writer Anne Marie Murphy took the roads less travelled collecting stories and memories from the people she found along the way, welcome to the wonderful word of Wild Cornwall. She says "The stories on the “Walk with Me” app, aren’t ones you will find in the guide or history books. You may find the beginnings of them in an old photograph in a local museum, an over heard conversation in a cafĂ©, a personal anecdote from one our tale gathering tea-parties. They are the untold, the personal, the sometimes wildly exaggerated, but sometimes not."

Three generations of women bond together with new walking app.

Story telling app for Newquay

The app could be enjoyed at home sitting with your feet up (armchair mode) or while walking around towns like Perranporth, Mevagissey and Newquay - the GPS magically triggers a tale as you explore. Soon new walks will be released for Helston, Redruth and Bodmin.

I love the idea, so much of this great county is overlooked, or misunderstood. By seeing these places whilst hearing peculiar or even the perfectly mundane tales brought to life it really adds another dimension.

Kneehigh are full of surprises, a theatre company that for 35 years have been surprising us with their joyful anarchy. Known for taking their story telling to all peoples and transforming all kinds of places, from village halls to castles. So I think it makes perfect sense to bring down the walls completely and use the very scenery around us as the backdrop to their latest performance.

The Walk With Me is a FREE app, plug in and enjoy. You can get it here at Google Play or the App Store. Photography by Steve Tanner.
