Can You Create A Winning Pasty Flavour?

The search is on for a winning new pasty flavour to celebrate the ninth Cornwall Food & Drink Festival, which is taking place from 28th to 30th September on Truro’s Lemon Quay.

Do you have a favourite pasty recipe that you think visitors to the festival would enjoy? If so, this is your chance to shine. Open to all amateur cooks and recipe creators, Simply Cornish, one of this year’s festival sponsors, is looking for a new pasty to become the flavour of the festival.

The winning pasty will go on sale at the Simply Cornish stand in the festival’s Croust Bar and the winner will receive a box of their special flavour pasties and a fantastic Simply Cornish hamper full of tasty Cornish produce.

Jason Jobling, Business Development Manager for Simply Cornish - part of Warren’s Bakery – is delighted with the idea. “We really love being part of Cornwall Food & Drink Festival and we’re excited about creating a new pasty that can be launched there. While the traditional Cornish pasty remains our most popular product, we are always keen to develop new ideas and we know that lots of people have their own successful recipes. We’re hoping people might share those with us and be in with the chance of seeing their own pasty go into production,” said Jason.

Festival organisers, Cornwall Food & Drink, are keen to emphasise that Cornish ingredients need to be incorporated into the recipe. Events Manager, Grace Stewart, said, “The festival is all about celebrating the finest Cornish produce so the judges will be looking first and foremost for a festival pasty with strong Cornish provenance. There is such a wide range of great local ingredients to choose from, we are sure there will be some interesting entries.”

The deadline for entries is Friday 13th July and all you have to do to enter is submit your recipe idea in writing to Cornwall Food & Drink. Application forms and other useful information, including a list of current flavours on sale at Warrens/Simply Cornish outlets and terms and conditions are available from the Cornwall Food & Drink website: www.cornwallfoodanddrink.co.uk or by calling 01872 865101 or emailing info@cornwallfoodanddrink.co.uk.
